Paying the Price (A Tribute to Veterans)

Paying the Price (A Tribute to Veterans)

By, Donna M. Monnig

For Veterans Day, I decided to post one of my poems from my book, Echoes of Time: A Collection of Rhyme. I would like to thank all veterans from all branches of the military for the service and sacrifices they have made.

Paying The Price

For everything in life there is a price that must be paid,

There is a price for every deal in the world that is made.

But no price is higher throughout all our history,

Than the price that is paid for a people to be free.

So many men and women have given up their lives,

Knowing that in war, not everyone survives.

But it does not stop these brave and chosen few,

Fighting for our freedom is just what they do.

Yet we’re not always thankful for the sacrifices made,

We sometimes forget about the heavy prices paid.

So we don’t always appreciate our country’s military,

Because we don’t always remember that freedom isn’t free.

  1. Kathi says:

Wonderful tribute to our brave military personnel. I have great admiration for their courage (one of my sons among them). My husband and I are watching the Ken Burn’s PBS series on The Civil War…devastating beyond belief, as war always is. I long for war to end, but I am grateful every day for those who give their time and lives to protect our country and the cause of freedom. Thanks for you poetic salute. I also love the quote by Maya Angelou.
