Poetry Month

Here’s another one of Mildred L. Monnig’s contributions to NaPoWriMo. And, while she prefers rhyming poetry, please note that she has nothing against free verse.

April Calender

Poetry Month
April is poetry month,
but I write all the time,
But for me, my poetry
always has to rhyme.
When it doesn’t rhyme, it
doesn’t seem like poetry,
For me, it’s like reading
just another short story.
But to each their own,
whatever floats their boat,
‘Cause ‘rhyming’ poetry,
might just get their goat.

Couldn’t agree more! Especially with the part about non-rhyming poetry being like any other short story. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it just doesn’t seem like poetry.
