Poetry: Anytime, Anyplace, About Anything – Common Chaos

By, Donna M. Monnig

Arabian Horse

Common Chaos

The owl landed on the generator
wanting to abscond upwind with it,
He did so to impress the cowbird
who thought he was a twit.

The ghost lived in the gutter; killed
by artillery in the second world war,
He could no longer eat cheese, salt,
or truffles due to a bilious disorder.

The quahog lived in the willowy sea-
weed, beneath the mercurial water,
He liked living down below, away
from those dunderhead otters.

Non-pereil was Cyclops’ ego; twice
his rodomantades had caused uproar,
He tought seeing the future made him special –
didn’t he know his third eye was an eye sore?

The svelte Arabian horse danced
across the desert curling his lip,
He’d recently eaten a clove of garlic,
and his water, he’d squandered his last sip.

Through all the chaos of these separate
stories, a common thread, there is but one,
They’re all connected in this poem,
which miraculously is now done!

I know this poem is pretty stupid but here it is anyway. The NaPoWriMo prompt for today was to write a poem using at least five words from a list of 28 words which were:owl, generator, abscond, upwind, squander, clove, miraculous, dunderhead, cyclops, willowy, mercurial, seaweed, gutter, non-pareil, artillery, salt, curl, ego, rodomontade, elusive, twice, ghost, cheese, cowbird, truffle, svelte, quahog, and bilious. As you can see, I decided to use them all.

Haha!! I love it!!! All the stories are totally pointless and seperate, and yet they all connect and mean something. Now THAT takes talent!

Good one! Sense doesn’t need to come into it, really, as long as it hangs together.
We are both either very brave or very stupid … 🙂

    • Thanks! I think I’m going to go with very brave, just because it sounds better. The truth doesn’t need to come into it, right?
Glad you liked it, thanks for sharing.
      God Bless,
